I've tried out a fair number of newbie sword quests looking for good ones; this one might be a bit too good compared to the rest.
The Pine Scout Longsword has a proc that does between 112 and 128 damage starting at level 15. For comparison, the second best damaging proc I've found on a newbie sword is the Neriak shadow knight's Bone Hilted Longsword (50 damage), though I think that the paladin's Lights Claymore is slightly better (self heal for 68). The Pine Scout Longsword also seems to proc pretty often, and its stats are good. The one weakness of the weapon I see is that it is primary only, so I won't be able to make it an offhand weapon when I find something better.
(The best offhand newbie sword I've found is the Storm Reaper Thorn Machete from Rivervale, which has a proc that does 46 damage. The newbie sword from Kelethin does less, I can't check because I rerolled my character after getting it and haven't seen a need to pick an inferior sword up.)
How has everyone else's experience with newbie weapons been? Have you run into weapons that feel too strong, or too weak, compared to others you've seen?
EDIT - It looks like the Pine Scout Longsword's proc got changed to a 55 damage one; probably a good move.
