I think it would be quite interesting to do big bodied monks like bare knuckle fighters. Too big for jump kicks but can slam (that interrupts) and use other kicks kinda like a street fighter. Orge/Barb/Troll Brawlers (monks) more power less movement.

like brawlers in eq2 (kind of)? sounds like it would have to pretty much be a custom class from the ground up unfortunately, but if it was possible this is a class i could get behind

you will have to pray that eld and reaver are able to do something like this with the current client. Dont think something like this is would be possible but  eld and reaver im sure would be able to answer the question with more certainty than i

I mean if the strikes could be renamed like the Iksar have some renamed strikes from Human monks, why change anything else? The racial and stat benefits alone would make people flock.

So, couple issues here.

First, the jump-kick animations (and all the other various ones that would be cool to have) are not necessarily modeled for all races.  That isn't to say it can't be done, but we'd probably need someone who has some skill with 3D animations.  Also note this would have to be done in a format that is compatible with the EQ client (not always an easy task).

Second, creating a new class (char creation screens and everything) from the ground up is a daunting task to say the least.  EVERY file in the client that reads character behaviors, skills, spells, food/water consumption, lighting, armor models...  ALL of it would have to be revised to account for the new class and recompiled.  Then we have to do it all again server-side.  Then we can start looking at class balancing, quests, and itemization (none of these are small tasks either).

Honestly, I think it would take a team of around 10 or so developers, working full-time on this, about 6-9 months to implement.  We'd need animators, 3D modelers, texture designers, and at least 3 more coders besides me, Eld, and Mirage.

If we could overcome all of those challenges, then sure. :)

A way something like this could possibly be implemented is through an AA stance-type thing.  When active, it could set non-2h skills to 1, enable some other spells/abilities that would behave like regular attacks (possibly even trigger some of the same animations, if the races have them available.

Would have to pick which existing class acts as the base for it, then come up with some skills that make it viable and balanced.

Cant we follow the keep it simple stupid logic and just give them slam animation based attacks? Remember, Iksar monks have renamed versions of human monk skills so why cant an ogre just be a monk with renamed skills?
