Difficulty of server?
« on: December 04, 2018, 03:06:57 pm »
Hiya folks,

I'm always on the lookout for cool new experiences. There's definitely a theme with a lot of these private servers in which you cannot box more than 2 and can't use MQ2. While I love the connection this creates, we all need to admit that with a very low population, it's incredibly difficult getting large group content (nevermind raids) done.

That said, what's the plan for this server? Is it tuned to such a degree that grouping will be necessary as you get higher to progress? Or, with enough practice and self-acquired gear/quest items, can your duo manage a lot of the content?

I have a little guy at home and it's sporadic enough trying to find time to play. Just need to steer clear of servers that are going to require I do nothing for 4 hours at a time to make progress.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing back!

I'm only level 14 currently but here is my take on the difficulty and such.

2boxing is great (even without MQ) because it allows you to essentially have more power per person. I have had no difficulty leveling so far and don't really see any problems moving forward in regards to grinding xp. With that being said, I really wish the box limit was increased to 3. I know it isn't super popular but I play my own unique way/times/have my own goals and tasks. I can't be relied on and cannot rely on grouping just yet. Having another character would give me a little more power and diversity within the group. Not having a "tank" will inevitably suck as I get higher up (just like in every game). Again, my problem to deal with.

The raid size of 18-24 (can't remember the exact number currently) is a little concerning due to how the population of newer servers is. I could understand 12 as average and 18 as max but I'm hopeful that this will all work out.

You bring up not needing to sit for 4 hours straight per session. I have had 0 issues walking away for hours at a time. My girlfriend/dogs are constantly pulling me away so camping or AFK'ing isn't really slowing me down. Don't rush the journey. Take your time. So far the only "time sink" has been my Gnome Cleric's newbie weapon quest. Even then, I kill a few things and come back to the pc like 10-15 minutes later.

The server seems to be fairly solid overall from what I've experienced/seen on stream.

Depending on how classes are modified here of course...

Speaking of which, how are certain combos compared to their p99 or retail counterparts?

Things like SK/Dru, while less optimal than SK/Shm, were extraordinarily useful to me in the past as it gave me a tank/dps, and a heal/port/dps. Alternatively I've used SK/Wiz, Rng/Enc, SK/Enc, Rng/Dru before - how do these combos play out on this server?

Well, I leveled my sk almost completely solo.. aside from a couple times grouping up in the late 40's. So anything you want to team up with the sk will likely be just fine. I started leveling a druid to use with him when I need a healer, just for the usefulness of ports.

Thank you all for your perspectives, and keep them coming!

Our hope is to have somewhat of a mix.  We understand that this is a game oriented toward more mature players, who may or may not have tons of time to sit at a single session.

For those folks who want to avoid the commitment to a group, much of the content in the open world can be handled readily by a reasonable 2-box combo.

The majority of our near-term content, both released and in development, is geared towards 6-person groups.  There are already a number of custom-populated dungeons aimed at level 50+ players, with more on the way.

There are a handful of raid events already in place, with some more in the planning and development stages.

The current focus is on AA's and epic quests.  AAs are nearly ready for launch, and epic quest development is underway (but no release date announced, as of yet).  Expect to see epic quests released a few at a time, with the goal of balancing release by archetype - tank, healer, dps/support.

Overall, our goal is to provide a place for folks to enjoy the EQ world - with a new take on many, if not most, things.  If you find something that detracts from an enjoyable experience, please let us know. You can reach the staff by posting on the forums, posting in discord, via PM here or on discord, and frequently in-game.
